Specifications For Submission
This section details how you should present your final manuscript
and the criteria it must satisfy once we have signed a contract with you.
Specifications
We require from the author a hard copy and an electronic copy of the manuscript. These should be supplied as follows:
HARD COPY
NB: Always keep a copy of your manuscript and correspondence for reference. Never send us your only copy.
COMPUTER COPY
Disks/e-mail/CDs Submission
We prefer computerized copies of manuscripts to be supplied as either Rich Text Format, Word or WordPerfect
documents and as one complete file, rather than individual files for each
chapter. If you are using graphics, please ensure that all supporting files are
included if they are not embedded into the document. Formatting should be the only difference between the hard copy and the disk: the texts of both must match exactly.
NB: If you are using Apple Macintosh, please do not use a floppy disk. Although
we can access either pc or mac it is advisable to consult us before sending your
copy to check out the compatibility of your files and CD.
Please label your CD/disc clearly with the following information:
1. Title of manuscript
2. Author’s name
3. Date
4. Software used to create files
CONTENTS
Your submission must include the following:
• A table of contents, complete and consistent with your text.
• An index or a list of terms you wish included in an index.
• A glossary, if you believe it will benefit the reader.
• A bibliography, annotated if appropriate.
PERMISSIONS
If your text includes quotations or data from other published sources, you are responsible for determining fair use or public domain status. You are also responsible for obtaining, in writing, all required permission grants. Under copyright law you, as the originator of the work, are the person who is held responsible for such matters. If we accept your work for publication, our contract with you will clearly state that you accept full responsibility for these matters.
At the time of manuscript submission, you must include a complete list of excerpts or quotations for which you intend to seek permission to use. When you apply to the copyright holder for permission grants, you may use the attached form at the back of these guidelines. Also include photocopies of your manuscript page and the excerpt in question. The signed permission grants should be returned directly to you, and you are responsible for presenting Crown House Publishing with complete documentation within 180 days of signing our Contract.
When citing other sources in your text-footnotes, endnotes, daggers, etc., include the complete title of the cited source, its author(s), the publisher, and the date and place of publication.
ILLUSTRATIONS
If there are illustrations or diagrams that supplement your text, you are obliged to supply them.
If you are sending photographs to be used as illustrations, they must be professional quality, high contrast, black and white or colour prints. Indicate clearly where they belong in the text. If you are using illustrations or photographs from other published sources, you must obtain permission. Photographs of museum pieces, even very old and famous ones, are not “public domain”, as there is an issue of photographic rights involved.
