This fully revised edition of The Spirit of NLP represents the core of a brilliant Richard Bandler master training. It also includes significant contributions from other master trainers, including Eric Robbie, Wyatt Woodsmall, Tad James, Christina Hall and the late Will McDonald. Providing a deeper understanding of the true genius of the co-developer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, it includes mastery of the neurology of NLP, and developmental work associated with sleight of mouth patterns. Systematically tackling the areas of Programming, Linguistics and Neurology, The Spirit of NLP is ideal for all those wishing to update and expand their understanding of the subject, or wanting a fresh and exciting new perspective on NLP. An outstanding contribution to its field, this book broadens and develops the existing NLP model, taking it into new and dynamic domains. One of the most advanced NLP books available.

After reading the first edition of this book years ago, I was so impressed with the content that I invited Michael Hall over from the USA to present a seminar. I did however, find some of the book's grammar challenging, or non-existent! What a pleasure therefore to find that this second edition had been extensively rewritten (updated) and edited, making the content extremely readable.
What you get is a book based on the contents of an NLP Master Practitioner training presented in 1989 by Richard Bandler with contributions from Chris Hall, Eric Robbie and others, with explanation and extra content from Michael.

Whilst a very few books cover some aspects of Master Practitioner level NLP more thoroughly, none in my experience covers this breadth of material and in this style.

Major topics are: What is Mastery at NLP, Propulsion Systems, Trance, Meta-Model, Sleight-of-Mouth, Neurology, Advanced Sub-modalities, Strategies, States, Meta-Programmes, Time-lines. Perhaps even more important than the content though is the spirit of enquiry that the book seeks to foster in the reader. Throughout is an emphasis on the attitudes of NLP (a` la Bandler), such as curiosity and ‘go for it’, and the importance of questioning everything.

Do I have some quibbles? Sure. Certain topics come across as fragmented. This may however be deliberate due to the non-sequential nature of the original training with Bandler. Also, Michael uses a little symbol at the end of certain paragraphs that I found distracting.

Lastly, I query some of the assumptions about prior knowledge; for instance, how many people having only attended a Practitioner Course will have competence with techniques such as Sliding Anchors, eliciting various hypnotic phenomena, or even trance elicitation for some?

However, these quibbles are minor. For those seeking to go beyond NLP Practitioner level understanding, or wanting a second description of a Master Practitioner training, this book is excellent. Frank Daniels, NLP Trainer
